Welcome

The EMbodied COgnition lab brings together researchers from many fields who hold a common goal: understanding how human cognition works. Our research moves from the idea that cognition is embodied and situated.

Work in the lab is primarily focused on behavioural experimentation. However, the empirical work of the group has three strands:

  • psychological (experimental psychology, kinematics),
  • neuropsychological (studies with patients, physiological studies with TMS),
  • computational (neural networks and Artificial Life and robotics simulations).

Within a general embodied and situated approach, our areas of interest include:

  • interaction between perception and action
  • categorization, action and motion
  • object affordances
  • action imitation
  • body representation
  • grounding of language in perception and action
  • motor resonance and mirroring effects
  • spatial compatibility phenomena and embodiment
  • shared attention.

Now our group coordinates an FP7 Cognitive Systems and Robotics project, the ROSSI project (Emergence of communication in RObots through Sensorimotor and Social Interaction).
